Innovative surgery

Robotic surgery is a type of minimally invasive surgery. The latest innovation in surgery is the use of the surgical robot. Our surgeons were the first to offer robotic surgery in the greater Tupelo area for a variety of surgical problems. It helps surgeons perform different procedures with more precision, flexibility, and control. Surgeons can perform delicate and complex procedures that may have been difficult or impossible with other methods. It can also provide a better, more detailed 3-D view of the operating site than the human eye can provide.

The process

Robotic instruments allow the surgeon maximum range of motion and precision. The process includes very small tools attached to a robotic arm while the surgeon controls the robotic arm with a computer. A thin tube with a camera attached to the end of it allows the surgeon to view enlarged 3-D images. The robot matches the surgeon’s hand movements to perform the procedure using the tiny instruments. This allows the surgeon to make precise, delicate motions while controlling the machine.  The robot is never making decisions or performing incisions on its own. Rather, the surgeon is telling the robot what to do, allowing for greater precision. Additionally, this technique may allow for fewer complications and a quicker recovery. In essence, the effect is to give the surgeon unprecedented control in a minimally invasive environment.

Surgery Options:

Colon Surgery

Colectomy is a surgical procedure to remove all or part of your colon. Your colon, also called your large intestine, is a long tubelike organ at the end of your digestive tract.

Gallbladder Surgery

a procedure that involves removing the gallbladder

Gastroesophageal Reflux Surgery

minimally-invasive procedure that corrects gastroesophageal reflux by creating an effective valve mechanism at the bottom of the esophagus.

Inguinal and Ventral Hernia Surgery

surgery conducted to repair a hernia
